Residents of Canada have medical coverage under their provincial health plans.
Canadians returning to Canada after living abroad face a waiting period
(normally three months) before they again enjoy coverage under a government
plan. New immigrants to Canada normally must wait three months before being
covered by a provincial health plan. Visitors to Canada will have coverage from
their own country or must arrange for it in Canada.
Coverage for visitors to Canada insurance can be arranged before or after one
arrives in Canada. If coverage is arranged after arriving in Canada there is
normally a short waiting period for sickness.
The Canadian health care system is one of the best in the world, but it is
expensive. Hospitals can charge thousands of dollars per day. Without emergency
medical coverage you would pay this cash out of your own pocket.
