FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR
VISITORS TO CANADA EMERGENCY MEDICAL INSURANCE

  1. How soon does coverage start?

Coverage can start immediately upon completion of an application and payment of the premium if done before arrival in Canada. There is normally a waiting period for sickness coverage only, if the policy is taken out after arrival. The waiting period can be 48 or 72 hours depending on the company.

  2. Does this insurance cover routine doctor's visits?

No. This policy is meant for emergencies. There must be a need for medical attention caused by either illness or injury which is unexpected.

  3. Who is eligible for visitors to Canada medical insurance?

    1. Canadians who have returned to Canada who are not covered under a provincial health plan.

    2. Visitors to Canada who are here on business or vacation.

    3. Immigrants to Canada who are waiting on government health coverage.

  4. Do I have to provide my medical records when I apply?

No you will not have to provide your medical records unless you have a claim. Your records will only be used to settle your claim.

  5. What limit of insurance should I purchase?

We suggest a limit of at least $50,000.00 as hospital costs for visitors to Canada can run up to $3,000.00 or more a day.

  6. What do I do when I have to put in a claim?

You will be given a claims assistance phone number with your policy document. The insurance company should be contacted at the number before you arrange for medical services if possible.
